Delays in Israel-Hamas Ceasefire Due to Incomplete Information on Prisoners

The start of the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas has been delayed due to incomplete information on prisoners listed by the Palestinian movement, according to the Wall Street Journal citing American and Egyptian officials.

A representative from the United States stated that Hamas provided names, genders, and nationalities of the majority of individuals, but some information was missing for certain prisoners, complicating and delaying their release.

Egyptian officials also pointed out that Hamas has not officially agreed on the exchange mechanism. A White House official added that the parties involved in the deal are working on finalizing the logistical details for implementing the agreement.

Previously, Israel’s ambassador to Russia, Alexander Ben-Zvi, announced that the prisoner exchange between Israel and the Palestinian movement Hamas would follow a “3 to 1” formula.

On November 22, Israel approved a deal with Hamas for the release of hostages held in the Gaza Strip. According to the agreement, a four-day ceasefire will be declared during which Hamas will release 50 women and children. In addition, representatives from the Red Cross will be allowed access to the remaining hostages to provide necessary medical assistance. As stated by Israel’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Gilad Erdan, after the pause, Israel will continue to address issues in the Palestinian enclave.

Earlier, Israel’s ambassador promised to continue targeting Hamas after the release of the hostages.
