Yemen Launches Attacks on Israeli Military Targets, Heightening Tensions in the Middle East

According to Yemeni television channel Al Masirah, Yemen has launched a series of missile attacks on various military targets in the city of Eilat, located in southern Israel. The military representative of the Houthi rebels, Yahya Saria, confirmed this information during a broadcast, stating that the Houthi rebels will continue their attacks until Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people ceases.

In recent weeks, the Houthi rebels have made multiple attempts to attack Israel using rockets and drones. In their most recent attack on November 15th, they launched ballistic missiles at several targets, including Eilat. The Israeli Defense Forces reported that they intercepted a “surface-to-surface” missile launched from Yemen over the Red Sea using the “Arrow” missile defense system.

Additionally, the Houthi rebels have announced their intention to attack any Israeli vessels in the Red Sea, including those owned or operated by Israeli companies. They recently seized a ship in the southern Red Sea, carrying 25 individuals who are not Israeli citizens. Among them are citizens of Ukraine, Bulgaria, the Philippines, and Mexico. The Houthi rebels have promised to treat non-Israeli citizens on board the ship according to the principles of Islamic hospitality – with friendliness and respect.

The Houthi rebels in Yemen are supported by Iran, the Islamist movement “Hezbollah” in Lebanon, and other Shiite groups in the Middle East.

The situation in the Middle East has escalated following the infiltration of thousands of Hamas militants from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory on October 7th. More than two hundred hostages were taken.

On that day, Hamas launched thousands of rockets into Israeli territory and declared the beginning of the “Al-Aqsa Flood” operation. In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the country was in a state of war.

The Lebanese Shiite organization “Hezbollah” expressed support for Hamas, leading to rocket attacks on Israel from both sides. On October 19th, the Israeli army announced that border areas had been shelled from Lebanese territory. According to the IDF, several anti-tank missiles were fired towards the kibbutz of Manara.

According to experts cited by Bloomberg, the Lebanese Shiite organization “Hezbollah” is expected to be able to overwhelm Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system in the event of a conflict in the Middle East.

Earlier, the Houthi rebels revealed their plans for the seized ship.
