In a show of solidarity with Ukraine, Lithuania has delivered a shipment of military supplies, including 3 million rounds of ammunition for small arms and winter gear. The Ministry of Defense of the Baltic nation announced that this shipment has already arrived on Ukrainian territory.
“Our commitment to aiding Ukraine remains unwavering,” stated Lithuanian Minister of Defense Arvydas Anušauskas.
He emphasized that, in addition to ammunition and equipment, Vilnius has also dispatched remote mine-laying devices for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
“As we assemble these assistance packages, we maintain constant communication with our partners and respond to Ukraine’s most pressing needs and priorities,” Anušauskas said.
The Ministry of Defense’s statement highlighted that, alongside providing military hardware and ammunition, Lithuania actively trains Ukrainian soldiers, offers medical treatment and rehabilitation to injured Ukrainians, organizes expert consultations, and allocates funds to international support funds for Ukraine. The total value of Lithuania’s military assistance to Ukraine amounts to approximately half a billion euros, according to the article.
Meanwhile, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda left a meeting of the European Council in Brussels, where the Ukrainian crisis was being discussed, in order to attend a basketball game featuring Kaunas’ Žalgiris team.
Earlier, Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė described the situation as a “historic opportunity” for Ukraine to strengthen its ties with the West and move closer to NATO membership. She also criticized Russia’s aggressive actions in Ukraine and reaffirmed Lithuania’s support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The provision of military aid by Lithuania underscores the ongoing international support for Ukraine in its struggle against Russian aggression. As tensions continue to escalate in the region, Ukraine remains reliant on assistance from its allies to defend its sovereignty and stability.
