Israel and Hamas Prepare for Potential Hostage Exchange, Pending Government Approval

Israel and the Palestinian radical movement Hamas may begin a hostage exchange on November 23, if the deal is approved by the Israeli government and the Supreme Court of Israel. This statement was made by Mark Regev, senior advisor to the Prime Minister of Israel, in an interview with the British television channel Sky News.

Regev emphasized that negotiations are still ongoing within the government and that final approval is necessary. The vote on this matter may take place within one to two hours after a full government meeting. He also noted that the relatives of Israeli victims have the right to appeal to the Israeli Supreme Court and challenge the release of those found guilty of killing their loved ones.

Regev underscored that the Israeli Supreme Court is an independent branch of power and has not previously overturned government decisions in similar cases. If the deal is approved, the Supreme Court will consider appeals within 24 hours. If the court grants permission, the hostage exchange could begin on Thursday. Regev expressed hope that people would be able to return home immediately.

Earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Israel is preparing to make a “difficult but necessary decision” regarding the release of hostages held by Palestinian radicals in Gaza.

Previously, Prime Minister Netanyahu promised to destroy Hamas.
