Intense Shootout Unfolds as Dallas Police and U.S. Marshals Confront Capital Murder Suspect

Recently released police body camera footage has captured a dramatic shootout between law enforcement officers and a capital murder suspect in Dallas. The video reveals a tense situation as U.S. Marshals Task Force officers, assisted by Dallas police, attempted to serve a warrant for 20-year-old Jordan Owens, who was wanted for the murder of 23-year-old Chi’quavion Ross on October 16.

According to Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia, the officers knocked on Owens’ door for three minutes, announced their presence, and breached the door. Owens responded by opening fire on the officers using a modified pistol. In the exchange of gunfire, Senior Corporal Edgar Morales was shot in the calf but managed to continue on with a slight hobble.

Garcia emphasized the dangerous nature of the suspect, stating, “This suspect had already shown he had no regard for human life, wanted for capital murder, tried to murder my officers and officers of this task force.” Despite strict orders to surrender, Owens refused to comply, leading the officers to enter the apartment.

During the shootout, Owens was also wounded. Garcia explained that Owens was armed with an illegal weapon containing a Glock switch, a device that allows a semi-automatic weapon to fire automatically within seconds. Owens fired over 15 rounds at the officers from the doorway and an additional six rounds during the confrontation.

Eventually, the police managed to enter the apartment and apprehend Owens. Morales received medical treatment for his injuries and was later released from the hospital. Owens is currently listed in stable condition at the hospital.

Chief Garcia revealed that two other suspects connected to the murder case are still at large. He emphasized the dangerous nature of these criminals, stating, “This suspect is the type of dangerous, violent criminal this task force comes into contact with on a regular basis.”

In addition to the capital murder charge, Owens will also face three counts of aggravated assault of a public servant. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and law enforcement authorities are actively searching for the other suspects connected to the murder case.

This intense shootout serves as a reminder of the risks law enforcement officers face daily in their efforts to apprehend dangerous criminals and ensure public safety.
