Concerns Raised Over US Ability to Deliver F-16 Fighter Jets to Taiwan

The United States may face difficulties in fulfilling its commitments to Taiwan regarding the delivery of F-16 fighter jets, according to Republican lawmakers. In a letter addressed to US Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall, the legislators expressed their concerns about production and supply issues related to the F-16 aircraft. The letter was signed by 20 members of the Republican Party.

Bloomberg reported that the lawmakers questioned the US’s ability to fulfill its obligations to Taiwan, Israel, and Ukraine simultaneously. They urged Kendall to prioritize the delivery of military assistance promised to Taipei. Additionally, the legislators requested Kendall to provide a report on this matter by December 18.

The military support program for Taiwan includes the delivery of 66 new F-16 fighter jets and the modernization of the country’s existing fleet of 141 aircraft.

Earlier, John Kirby, the Coordinator for Strategic Communications at the White House National Security Council, stated that while the US opposes Taiwan’s independence, it will continue to supply arms to the island in the future.

Previously, Taiwan expressed gratitude to US President Joe Biden for his support during negotiations with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
