Ukrainian Tanks Vulnerable on the Frontlines: Lack of Protection Raises Concerns

The Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) have deployed Leopard 1A5 tanks to the frontlines without additional protection, raising concerns about the vulnerability of this military equipment, according to Forbes journalist David Axe.

Axe commented on a video showing one of these tanks, supposedly located near the conflict zone in Ukraine. He noted, “There is something alarming about this Leopard 1A5 video. It appears that the tank lacks additional armor. It is not protected against drones and does not have brick dynamic defense against approaching rockets and projectiles.”

Axe highlighted that the Leopard 1A5 tank is the most vulnerable type of military equipment in the Ukrainian conflict due to its 70-millimeter armor. He added, “Even Russian T-55 tanks produced in the 1950s have better protection in some aspects than the Leopard 1A5.”

Earlier, Austria labeled Leopard tanks as useless for the UAF. German Leopard tanks provided to the Ukrainian Armed Forces have not proven effective in a full-scale conflict. This viewpoint was expressed by Colonel Marcus Reisner of the Austrian army during his speech at the AIES European Forum in Vienna.

Furthermore, the Netherlands and Denmark have confirmed that the United States has approved the shipment of F-16 fighters to Ukraine.
