South Korea Warns North Korea to Halt Military Satellite Launch

South Korean military officials have issued a warning to North Korea, urging them to immediately cease preparations for launching another military spy satellite. They have threatened to take necessary measures if North Korea proceeds with the launch. This information was reported by Yonhap News Agency.

Earlier, the South Korean Defense Minister stated that Pyongyang may attempt to launch another satellite as early as this week.

“If North Korea continues with the launch of a military spy satellite despite our warning, our military will take necessary measures to protect the lives and safety of our people,” said Kang Ho-pil, the Director of Operations of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), as quoted by the agency.

However, he did not specify what actions Seoul might take.

North Korea has previously made two unsuccessful attempts to orbit a reconnaissance satellite in May and August of this year.

According to the agency, the use of ballistic missile technology by North Korea is prohibited under the United Nations Security Council resolutions.

On November 13, it was reported that Japan plans to launch a rocket with a satellite to monitor North Korea in early 2024.

Earlier, North Korea had referred to the US submarine’s presence in South Korea as a “condition for the use of nuclear weapons.”
