Israel’s Defense Minister, Yoav Galant, has stated that following the Hamas attack on the country, the pro-Iranian group Hezbollah has launched over 1,000 rockets towards Israel. The Times of Israel reports his remarks.
“War is being fought on multiple fronts, despite the most intense battles taking place in Gaza,” he emphasized.
Galant further claimed that Israel has inflicted greater damage on Hezbollah than the group has been able to inflict on the Jewish state.
Prior to this, Hezbollah announced attacks on 14 positions of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) within a day.
The situation in the Middle East has escalated following the infiltration of thousands of Hamas militants from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory on October 7th, when Hamas declared the start of the “Al-Aqsa Flood” operation. In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared the country to be in a state of war.
The objective of Israel’s retaliatory operation, named “Iron Swords,” is to repel the attack, free over 200 hostages, including foreigners, and destroy Hamas. To achieve this goal, Israel has carried out massive rocket attacks on the Gaza Strip since the first day of the operation. Additionally, the Israeli National Security Council decided to halt the supply of water, food, goods, electricity, and fuel to the strip. Humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza resumed only after October 20th through the Rafah Crossing, with their volume being deemed insufficient.
On October 27th, Israel announced the “expansion” of its ground operation in Gaza. The exact start date of this operation is unknown, but in anticipation of it, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians have evacuated their homes and relocated to shelters and the southern part of the enclave. As of November 5th, fighting continues in the center of Gaza, as the IDF has surrounded the city and cut off its supply.
Earlier in Israel, the potential involvement of Hezbollah in the war was described as a “fatal mistake.”
