An Illinois nursing home resident has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder and aggravated battery after allegedly punching and beating his neighbor to death over a dispute about a washing machine. The incident took place at Salem Village Nursing and Rehabilitation in Joliet, Illinois.
Police received a call from the nursing home concerning a “battery” on the building’s sixth floor. When officers arrived, they found a 61-year-old man unresponsive in the laundry room. It was determined that the suspect, identified as William Paschall, had become angry over the victim’s use of the washing machine and began attacking him.
According to police, Paschall repeatedly punched the victim in the head and used the victim’s walker in the assault, causing him to fall to the floor. Staff members intervened to stop the attack, and medical aid was provided to the victim until paramedics arrived. However, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene by the Will County Coroner’s office.
Paschall was immediately taken into custody and is now facing charges. The identity of the victim and the exact cause of death will be determined by the coroner’s office.
