A US military base in Syria, known as Al-Tanf, has been targeted by fighters from the Iraqi Shi’ite militia. This attack was claimed by the movement “Islamic Resistance of Iraq,” a Shi’ite militia that previously fought against the Islamic State in Iraq.
In their statement, the Shi’ite group announced that their unmanned aerial vehicle successfully struck a target within the American base. Additionally, powerful explosions were heard during the night at the US military base near the Koniko gas field in the Syrian province of Deir ez-Zor.
It is important to note that the Al-Tanf base is located within Syria unlawfully, without permission from the Syrian government or a mandate from the United Nations.
Prior to this incident, the US Department of State declared the pro-Iranian armed group “Kata’ib Sayyid al-Shuhada” and its leader Hashim Finyan al-Saadi as international terrorists operating in Iraq.
Earlier, Iran had threatened the US with a “heavy blow” and a boycott of goods.
