In a shocking incident, three individuals were shot and wounded while leaving a funeral in Landover, Maryland. The Prince George’s County Police Department is currently searching for possible suspects as they investigate the case. Fortunately, none of the injuries sustained by the victims were considered life-threatening.
The incident occurred as the van carrying the mourners was exiting the National Harmony Memorial Park cemetery, located in the suburbs of Washington. News outlets captured footage of bullet holes in the black van, highlighting the brazenness of the attack.
Maj. Chad Schmick, speaking at a press conference, expressed his dismay at the timing of the incident, stating, “This is a time when people are already grieving, already sad about losing a loved one.” The van, believed to be specifically targeted, was turning left out of the cemetery when the suspect or suspects opened fire.
The first responders faced significant challenges in providing aid to the victims due to limited access to the van. During the rescue operation, one officer sustained an injury. It is believed that the van contained close family members of the deceased, further adding to the tragedy.
The three victims, consisting of two women and a man, were quickly transported to a hospital for treatment. Their identities and current conditions have not been disclosed.
In an effort to gather more information about the incident, Maj. Schmick appealed to the community for any tips or doorbell camera footage that may assist in identifying the suspect or suspects. The police remain uncertain as to whether the attacker was on foot or in a vehicle.
