Democratic Congresswoman Expresses Concern Over Violent Pro-Palestinian Protests Near DNC

Former Georgia Rep. Doug Collins joined ‘FOX & Friends First’ to discuss an anti-Israel rally near the DNC and new polling indicating Trump is leading the GOP nomination by 48 points. A Democratic congresswoman from Michigan, Rep. Debbie Dingell, expressed her fear and concern over the violent pro-Palestinian demonstration that took place at the Democratic National Committee (DNC), stating that it “rattled” her more than the Jan. 6 Capitol riots.

In an interview with Digital, Dingell described her experience during the protest, expressing worry that someone “is going to get hurt at one of these things.” She emphasized the importance of free speech, peaceful protest, and assembly as fundamental parts of the Constitution. However, Dingell also recounted how she tried to leave the DNC building through a side door, only to find it blocked by protesters who had pushed trash bins against it.

Dingell then decided to leave through the front door, accompanied by fellow Democrat Rep. Hillary Scholten. Despite her determination, Dingell was deeply affected when she witnessed a pepper-sprayed U.S. Capitol Police officer being treated by a medic. She described the intensity of the situation, with police wearing masks and the clash between officers and protesters. Dingell admitted that being in such a contained space during the violent clash was frightening.

While Dingell supports peaceful protest, she expressed disappointment that the violent actions of the protesters distracted from the message they were trying to convey. She expressed gratitude towards the Capitol Police for keeping her and her colleagues safe, and she apologized for anyone who got hurt during the incident.

Dingell also spoke about her belief that there are forces deliberately trying to divide the country, but she refrained from naming specific entities. She emphasized her commitment to civility and the belief that disagreements can be handled amicably. Dingell expressed concern that these forces are trying to harm democracy.

In conclusion, the Democratic congresswoman’s experience at the violent pro-Palestinian protest near the DNC has left her shaken. She highlights the importance of free speech and peaceful protest but also emphasizes the need to maintain civility and avoid distractions from the intended message. Dingell expresses gratitude towards the Capitol Police for their protection and raises concerns about external forces trying to divide the nation.
