Thousands of Ukrainian Men Illegally Leave Country Amidst Military Mobilization

Around 20,000 Ukrainian men who were called for military service during the mobilization have illegally left the country, according to reports from the BBC citing data on illegal border crossings from neighboring countries since February of last year.

Another 21,000 individuals attempted to leave the country but were detained by security forces. Among them, 14,000 people intended to cross the border bypassing checkpoints, while the rest tried to exit the country using forged documents claiming serious illness.

Fedor Venislavsky, a member of the parliamentary committee of the Verkhovna Rada on national security and the president’s representative in parliament, stated that the number of draft evaders remains low compared to the total number of mobilized individuals.

Previously, French columnist Sylvie Kaufmann from Le Monde reported a series of military and diplomatic setbacks for Ukraine in relation to the conflict with Russia. She claims that there is currently a combination of unfavorable factors for the West and Ukraine, creating a so-called “perfect storm” that could have negative consequences for Kyiv.

Earlier in the US, the failure of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ counteroffensive was acknowledged.
