In the ongoing ground operation by Israel in the Gaza Strip, the military wing of the Palestinian movement Hamas, known as the Al-Qassam Brigades, has reportedly destroyed more than 200 military vehicles. Valid al-Kilani, a representative of the organization’s information bureau in Lebanon, revealed this in an interview with RIA Novosti.
According to al-Kilani, the destroyed vehicles include tanks and bulldozers. He also stated that rocket launches towards Israeli settlements continue, and Israel has been unable to achieve any military objectives since the start of the operation.
The situation in the Middle East has escalated after thousands of Hamas militants infiltrated Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip on October 7th, marking the beginning of the “Al-Aqsa Flood” operation by Hamas. In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that the country is in a state of war.
The objective of Israel’s counter-operation, named “Iron Swords,” is to repel the attack, free over 200 hostages (including foreign nationals), and destroy Hamas. To achieve this goal, Israel has been conducting massive missile strikes on the Gaza Strip since the first day of the operation. Additionally, the Israeli National Security Council decided to halt the supply of water, food, goods, electricity, and fuel to the region. Humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza have only resumed through the Rafah Crossing after October 20th, with their volume being deemed insufficient.
On October 27th, Israel announced the “expansion” of its ground operation in Gaza. The exact start date of this operation remains unknown, but prior to it, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians had evacuated their homes and sought shelter in bunkers and the southern part of the enclave. As of November 5th, clashes are still ongoing in the center of Gaza City, as the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have surrounded and cut off the city from supplies.
Previously, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had vowed to destroy Hamas.
