UN Agency Schools in Gaza Targeted in Attacks, Civilian Casualties Reported

Two schools operated by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) have been struck in Gaza, causing damage to the buildings and injuries among internally displaced persons seeking shelter in one of the schools, according to a statement on the agency’s website.

Prior to this incident, Qatari television channel Al-Jazeera claimed that the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) had targeted a storage facility for medicines and medical equipment in the Ash-Shifa medical complex in Gaza.

It was also reported that the Israeli naval forces had launched an attack on a military camp used for training and weapon storage by the radical Palestinian group Hamas.

On October 27th, Israel announced an “expansion” of its ground operation in Gaza. The exact start of this operation remains unknown, but in anticipation of it, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians have evacuated their homes and sought refuge in shelters and in the southern part of the enclave. On November 5th, as part of the ground operation, IDF forces surrounded the city of Gaza and cut off its supply routes, while fighting continues in the center of Gaza.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had previously outlined Israel’s objectives in the war against Hamas.
