Car Burglary Suspects Apprehended After High-Speed Chase Ends in Crash

Polk County deputies successfully apprehended a couple accused of attempting to break into multiple cars after a high-speed chase that ended in a crash. The suspects, a white male and a white female, were spotted trying to break into parked cars in the Preservation Pointe neighborhood of Davenport, Florida. Law enforcement attempted a traffic stop on the suspect’s Cadillac CTS, but the vehicle fled into a subdivision. Due to the limited access to the neighborhood, the deputy did not pursue the suspects.

During the chase, the suspects drove past a deputy, turned around, and sped back down the same street in an attempt to find an escape route. Surveillance footage from the neighborhood captured the moment when the suspects crashed into an unoccupied parked vehicle. Deputies immediately apprehended the suspects and called for medical assistance to treat their injuries.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd expressed relief that no innocent individuals were harmed during the incident. He emphasized the dangerous nature of fleeing from law enforcement in a residential area and highlighted the irony of the driver having a neck tattoo that read “All gas, no brakes.” The driver was identified as 37-year-old Timothy Allen Hogue, while the passenger was identified as 31-year-old Rebecca Kozub.

After being released from the hospital, Hogue admitted to the car burglaries, stating that it was Kozub’s idea. He also explained that he fled because he panicked. Hogue has been charged with multiple offenses, including burglary, theft, fleeing to elude, possession of drugs, and resisting arrest. Kozub, who suffered a fractured leg in the crash, remains hospitalized, and charges against her are pending.

Both Hogue and Kozub have extensive criminal histories, with Hogue having 31 felonies and 18 misdemeanors, while Kozub has 19 felonies and 20 misdemeanors.

In conclusion, the swift action of Polk County deputies led to the arrest of car burglary suspects after a high-speed chase that ended in a crash. The incident highlights the dangers of fleeing from law enforcement in residential areas and serves as a reminder of the importance of public safety.
