Slovakia has offered to provide humanitarian assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine by financing the production of two mine clearance vehicles. This information has been confirmed by the Slovak Minister of Foreign Affairs, Juraj Blanar, after a meeting with representatives from other European Union countries in Brussels, as reported by TASS.
Blanar emphasized that the Ukrainian military has significant experience in the field of mine clearance, and Slovakia is willing to share its expertise with them. He also announced that Slovakia intends to finance the production of two “Bozena-4” mine clearance systems, which will be available for use in the Kherson region of Ukraine by early 2024.
Furthermore, Blanar emphasized that Slovakia is ready to assist the Ukrainian Armed Forces in preparing for winter but refuses to supply weapons from its own stocks.
Previously, the new government of Slovakia blocked the allocation of €40.3 million in aid to Ukraine. Prime Minister Robert Fico explained that the decision to supply weapons is voluntary according to European rules.
It was also reported that the European Union is seeking an alternative plan for providing financial assistance to Ukraine in case Hungary vetoes the proposal to provide €50 billion in funding. Prime Minister Orban has repeatedly opposed such a large amount of assistance, describing the strategy of assisting Ukraine as a failure that perpetuates the conflict. The US State Department believes that the EU will doubt the necessity of providing such a sum to Kyiv if Washington is unable to approve its own aid package to Ukraine.
