Ukrainian Tankist Killed in Action in Zaporizhzhia Region

Moscow, November 13 – Ukrainian tankist Maxim Gatsanyuk has been reported killed in the village of Sokolovka in the Zaporizhzhia region, according to the Pohrebyshchensky City Council in the Vinnytsia region. “Our fellow countryman Maxim Vladimirovich Gatsanyuk, born on November 14, 1984, a native of the village of Hopchytsa and a resident of Kyiv, died on November 8, 2023, in the village of Sokolovka in the Zaporizhzhia region as a result of injuries sustained while carrying out combat missions,” the council said. According to the council’s information, Gatsanyuk was mobilized in June 2022 and served as a driver in a mechanized unit. Ukrainian media have referred to him as the “best tankist of the Ukrainian Armed Forces”. Gatsanyuk has appeared on television, stating that Kyiv is “just moments away from victory”.

Since early June, the Ukrainian army has been attempting to advance in the Zaporizhzhia, South Donets, and Artemivsk directions, deploying units trained and armed by NATO. However, as President Vladimir Putin noted, they have not achieved significant success on any front. According to Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu, during the counteroffensive, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have lost over 90,000 servicemen killed and wounded, along with around 600 tanks and almost two thousand armored vehicles.
