US Strikes Weapons Depot in Syria in Response to Attacks on American Forces

The United States Armed Forces have carried out a strike on a facility in Syria that they claim was used by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and its affiliated groups. This was announced by the US Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, on November 8.

According to the statement, the strike was conducted in eastern Syria on a weapons depot. Two F-15 fighters were used in the operation. Austin emphasized that this was a response to a series of attacks against American servicemen in Iraq and Syria.

Earlier, on November 6, NBC News reported, citing sources, that 45 American servicemen were injured in attacks on US bases in the Middle East.

Pentagon Chief Lloyd Austin stated on October 31 that measures would be taken if the attacks on American forces supported by Iran did not cease in the Middle East.

In the previous days, the American base at the Conoco gas field in the Deir ez-Zor province in eastern Syria was targeted by rocket fire. The US military base near the oil field of Al-Omar in eastern Syria was also attacked. The Pentagon reported that in the last 10 days, American military bases in Iraq and Syria have been subjected to 20 attacks involving rockets and drones.

John Kirby, the Coordinator for Strategic Communications at the White House National Security Council, stated that the airstrikes on weapons and ammunition depots in Syria were a warning signal to Tehran.

Previously, Russia carried out a strike on a drone storage facility belonging to militants in the Syrian province of Idlib.
