Senior advisor to the Israeli government, Mark Regev, has stated that Israeli security forces will remain in the Gaza Strip even after the completion of the operation against the Hamas group. The official made this statement in an interview with the American television channel CNN.
According to Regev, it is important to prevent the resurgence of terrorist organizations after Israel’s victory over Hamas. It makes no sense to first defeat the terrorists and then allow them to reappear. Therefore, Israeli security forces must stay in the Gaza Strip.
At the same time, Regev emphasized that the presence of security forces in the enclave does not mean its occupation or direct control.
Earlier, US President Joe Biden told journalists that during a phone conversation on November 6, he urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to declare a humanitarian pause in the Gaza Strip.
Previously, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu had promised to destroy Hamas.
