Russian MiG-31 Fighters Intercept a Target in the Stratosphere over the Barents Sea

During training exercises over the Barents Sea, MiG-31 fighter jets successfully intercepted a simulated enemy target in the stratosphere. This information was reported by the press service of the Northern Fleet, according to TASS.

The report states that as part of the training exercise, the airspace control forces detected an aerial target approaching the Russian state border over the Barents Sea. Two MiG-31 fighters from the Northern Fleet’s air defense forces were dispatched to intercept the target. The crews identified the aerial target, forced it to turn around, and accompanied it to the Russian airspace border. The interception took place at an altitude of over 13,000 meters.

In late October, Russia’s strategic nuclear forces conducted exercises involving a simulated mass nuclear strike in response to an enemy attack, announced Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu. The ballistic missile “Sineva” was launched from the Barents Sea aboard the nuclear submarine “Tula,” while the “Yars” missile complex was launched from the Plesetsk cosmodrome. Launch operations were coordinated from the National Defense Management Center.

It was previously reported how Russia responded to Latvia’s threats to close off the Baltic Sea.
