Russian and Ethnic Chechen Soldiers Make Up 75% of Special Response Unit ‘Ahmat,’ Says Commander

In a recent interview with “Business Online,” Major General Apti Alaudinov, the commander of the special response unit “Ahmat,” revealed that 50% of his unit consists of Russian soldiers by nationality. He further explained that an additional 25% of the unit is made up of ethnic Chechens, while the remaining fighters belong to other nationalities residing in Russia.

Alaudinov emphasized that the most important factor is standing shoulder to shoulder with them and defending the interests of their country, regardless of nationality. He stated, “It doesn’t matter to us. What matters is that you stand with us and defend the interests of our state.”

According to Alaudinov, “pure Russian guys, men” come to Chechnya to join the unit. Notably, since its establishment, the “Ahmat” unit has not experienced any conflicts related to national or interreligious disputes.

Previously, soldiers from the Bogdan Khmelnitsky Battalion, the first unit composed of former Ukrainian prisoners of war, took an oath to Russia.
