Polls Show Concerns Over Biden’s Re-Election Prospects, Prompting Calls for Him to Drop Out of 2024 Race

Recent polls indicating President Biden’s declining support and hypothetical match-ups against former President Trump have sparked fear among some Democrats about Biden’s ability to win re-election in 2024. The polls, including one conducted by Siena College and the New York Times, show Trump leading Biden in five out of six crucial battleground states that Biden narrowly won in the 2020 election. These findings have led top political pundits to ring the alarm bell, urging Biden to step aside and pass the baton to a new generation.

The survey also reveals Biden losing support among key demographics such as Black and Hispanic voters, as well as younger voters who have traditionally been the Democratic Party’s base of support. However, it also suggests that an unnamed generic Democratic nominee would defeat Trump by eight points in the 2024 presidential election.

These polls are not isolated findings. A CBS News poll released over the weekend also indicates Trump leading Biden in a potential 2024 rematch. Supporters of the former president expressed nervousness and frustration at the prospect of Biden running again.

Meanwhile, Trump is emerging as the frontrunner for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination, with his lead expanding over other Republican contenders. Despite facing four indictments, including charges related to his efforts to overturn the 2020 election, Trump’s support among Republican voters remains strong.

The president’s re-election campaign has responded to the polls, highlighting the Democrats’ successful performance in the 2022 midterms and President Obama’s re-election in 2012, which defied earlier predictions of defeat. They argue that predictions made more than a year in advance often evolve as circumstances change.

Notably, prominent Democratic strategists are also expressing concerns about Biden’s re-election prospects. James Carville, a key figure in former President Clinton’s 1992 campaign, has been warning for months that Biden could lose to Trump in 2024. Carville claims that other leading Democrats have urged him to refrain from criticizing Biden’s chances.

The polls have left many Democrats questioning Biden’s durability and searching for alternative candidates for 2024. Even some Republicans, such as Bill Kristol, are calling on Biden to step aside and allow the next generation to take the reins. However, Biden currently faces primary challenges from Democratic rivals, including Rep. Dean Phillips of Minnesota and spiritual adviser Marianne Williamson.

The growing concerns over Biden’s age and the public’s reluctance to see him seek a second term have raised speculation about other prominent Democrats entering the 2024 race if Biden chooses not to run. Governors Gavin Newsom of California, J.B. Pritzker of Illinois, Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania, and Rep. Ro Khanna of California are among those mentioned as potential contenders.

As the 2024 campaign unfolds, party leaders may exert pressure on Biden to reconsider his re-election bid, further adding to the uncertainty surrounding the Democratic Party’s prospects in the next presidential election.
