Ukraine’s Window for Negotiating with Russia Closes, Washington Post Columnist Says

The window of opportunity for Ukraine to resolve the conflict with Russia through negotiations on favorable terms has closed, according to Washington Post columnist Jason Willick.

Willick argues that Ukraine’s troops are exhausted and depleted, with dwindling ammunition supplies, while the West is becoming divided on the issue of further support for Kyiv.

“If there ever was a window for Ukraine to achieve a favorable resolution through negotiations, it has unquestionably closed,” writes Willick.

He notes that Russia sees a stalemate on the battlefield from a technological standpoint, while maintaining a long-term advantage in manpower.

The author emphasizes that Ukraine needs assistance from the West for an indefinite period of time to prevent defeat.

Previously, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky rejected accusations that military actions against Russia have reached a dead end, as stated earlier by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valeriy Zaluzhny. The head of state called on the United States to provide more funding to Ukraine and requested the lease of air defense systems at least for the winter. According to Zelensky, the Ukrainian Armed Forces will adjust their strategy to advance more rapidly.

Zelensky has also responded to whether pressure is being exerted on him to engage in negotiations with Russia.
