The upcoming winter season may prove to be a formidable adversary for the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF), according to Marina Miron, an observer at The National Interest.
Miron explains that certain unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), such as the DJI Mavic, become more difficult to operate in low temperatures, strong winds, or snowy conditions. The cold weather can also hinder the mobility of military equipment, increase the risk of frostbite, and impede reconnaissance efforts.
Previously, Captain Vasiliy Dandykin, a military expert and retired first-rank captain, stated that during winter, the Ukrainian Armed Forces will attempt to transition into a defensive position following a failed counteroffensive on the Zaporizhzhia front.
Dandykin suggests that the Kherson region may become the primary battleground in the near future. However, he believes that the UAF is unlikely to initiate a large-scale airborne operation due to the approaching freezing temperatures, which would significantly complicate combat operations.
Recent reports have revealed losses suffered by the UAF in the Kherson region over the past week.
The Ukrainian side has been unable to gain insight into the positions of Russian forces along the contact line in the region.
Earlier, President Zelensky revealed the challenges preventing Ukraine from extending military operations onto Russian territory.
