A disturbing incident occurred in Florida when a man allegedly tried to circumcise his 2-year-old cousin while babysitting him. According to the Holly Hill Police Department, 29-year-old Timothoes Powell was responsible for the incident, which took place on October 17. Powell called the boy’s mother and informed her that her son was bleeding from his groin area due to glass entering his diaper. The incident came to light when hospital staff noticed the injury and suspected possible abuse.
The toddler’s grandparents were present in the house at the time of the incident but were asleep. Powell, who was babysitting the child while the mother was at work, claimed that he accidentally cut the toddler’s groin area while attempting to wipe off the glass. However, home surveillance cameras revealed Powell walking away with an unknown object after changing the toddler’s diaper. Additionally, the footage captured the child screaming before the diaper was put back on.
During the investigation, Powell admitted to police that he may have pulled the boy’s penis too forcefully and wiped him too hard, although he claimed he did not intentionally cut him. However, an advanced practice nurse from the Child Protection Team confirmed that the laceration on the toddler’s groin area was too clean and precise to be accidental, suggesting a possible attempted circumcision.
The incident report also mentioned Powell’s frustration and escalating temper, as he was seen yelling at the boy on the security camera and threatening to put soap in his mouth to quiet him. Based on the evidence and consultation with the nurse, authorities charged Powell with aggravated child abuse. He is currently held at the Volusia County Branch Jail on a $100,000 bond.
