Russian President Vladimir Putin has strongly criticized overseas figures for their contradictory actions, expressing support for Jews in Israel while allegedly attempting to incite Jewish pogroms in Russia. During a meeting with members of the Public Chamber, Putin highlighted the role of social media manipulation from abroad in provoking the recent events at Makhachkala airport. He also mentioned Ukraine’s involvement in these manipulations.
Expressing his disbelief, Putin stated, “I am amazed at the position of overseas figures. They supposedly support Jews in Israel, but with their own hands through their agents in Ukraine, they attempt to organize Jewish pogroms here. It’s simply unbelievable, it’s not just double standards, I don’t even know how to describe it. It’s some kind of distortion of consciousness.”
The riots at Makhachkala airport on October 29 occurred following the arrival of a regular flight from Tel Aviv, amidst the escalating tensions in the Middle East. Hundreds of individuals stormed the airport building and the runway, but were later expelled by law enforcement officers.
Emphasizing the need for a firm and timely response, Putin called upon the special services, law enforcement agencies, and regional leaders to protect the constitutional order, as well as the rights and freedoms of citizens. He stressed that this is crucial for maintaining interethnic and interreligious harmony.
This incident follows Putin’s earlier mention of an attempt to destabilize Russia from within through the unrest in Dagestan. The Russian president’s remarks shed light on the importance of addressing manipulations and maintaining stability in the region.
