Firefighters in Glens Falls, New York, were shocked by a chilling Halloween decoration that appeared to be a raging fire inside a home. However, it turned out to be a terrifying real-life incident when a 6-year-old mistakenly left a candy-filled Halloween goody bag on the porch of a 43-year-old man’s house. The situation took a dangerous turn when the man pointed a gun at the child’s head.
According to the Nassau County Police Department, a 42-year-old mother from Long Island drove her daughter, two sons, and nephew to a friend’s house to drop off a Halloween “boo bag.” The 10-year-old daughter and 6-year-old son were tasked with leaving the treats on the front porch. Unfortunately, the 10-year-old realized that she might have gotten the address wrong.
Upon their return to the friend’s house, the 6-year-old went to retrieve the goody bag. However, as he approached the front door, a man identified as Michael Yifan Wen, 43, opened the door and pointed a black handgun at the child’s head. The incident left the child traumatized and unable to sleep.
Wen’s attorney, William Zou, claimed that it was a misunderstanding and said his client, a married man and loving father, had been on edge due to concerns about his family’s safety. Zou explained that Wen thought someone was trying to break into their home, leading to his regretful actions.
Wen has been charged with Menacing 2nd Degree and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. He pleaded not guilty during his arraignment on October 29, and his next hearing is scheduled for November 13.
