Journalist Injured in Ukraine Shelling Undergoes Surgery

Journalist Evgeny Bykovsky, who was injured in the recent shelling in Donetsk, Ukraine, has successfully undergone surgery, according to reports from Izvestia. Bykovsky, a correspondent for the newspaper, was injured during an attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). Alexey Poltoranin, another correspondent from Izvestia, is also being prepared for surgery following the incident.

The shelling took place on October 31, when the Ukrainian army launched rockets towards Donetsk at 19:18 Moscow time. Four rockets were fired from a reactive volley fire system, and three more launches were later reported. The Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) representation in the Joint Center for Control and Coordination (JCCC) disclosed these details.

Bykovsky and Dmitry Yagodkin, a photojournalist from TASS, both sustained injuries during the attack. Yagodkin, who was in the Budennovsky district of Donetsk at the time, found himself caught in the crossfire. He reported that the AFU soldiers were targeting civilian infrastructure objects.

The incident raises concerns about the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and the safety of journalists reporting from the region. Bykovsky’s injury highlights the risks faced by media professionals in the line of duty.

This recent development comes after a soldier from the AFU expressed his lack of understanding regarding the reasons behind the conflict in Ukraine. The situation remains tense, with the US government’s position backing the war in Ukraine drawing criticism and cynicism from various quarters.

The injury to Bykovsky and Yagodkin serves as a reminder of the dangers faced by journalists covering conflicts and the need for measures to protect their safety. The incident also underscores the importance of impartial reporting to provide an accurate account of events in conflict zones.

As Bykovsky and Yagodkin recover from their injuries, the international community must not forget the sacrifices made by journalists in their pursuit of truth and information. Their voices must continue to be heard, despite the risks they face, in order to shed light on the realities of war and its impact on innocent civilians.
