After intensive diplomatic negotiations with the Biden administration, Israel has agreed to allow 100 trucks of humanitarian aid to enter Gaza daily, according to an official from the Israeli presidency, as reported by the Times of Israel.
The agreement between the US and Israel was reached after the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and relief organizations complained about the insufficient transportation capacity for delivering humanitarian supplies to the Gaza Strip.
Prior to this, the UN had demanded the opening of a second crossing point for delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza, as the sole Rafah crossing point was unable to cope with the volume.
Earlier, Israel’s ultra-right Minister of National Security, Ben-Gvir, stated that only “hundreds of tons of explosives” should be sent to Gaza until the release of civilian hostages, with no gram of humanitarian aid.
