Israeli intelligence agencies have reportedly stopped monitoring the conversations of Hamas militants through their radios, deeming it “useless” since last year. This revelation, as reported by The New York Times, raises concerns about Israel’s ability to predict and counter potential attacks by Palestinian militants.
According to sources, the Israeli Security Service could have potentially anticipated the recent attack by Palestinian militants on Israel. However, they were unable to do so due to their alleged decision to stop monitoring the militants’ radios since 2022, considering it a “waste of resources.”
In the early hours of October 7th, at around 3 a.m. local time, the intelligence agencies were unable to accurately explain the unusual activity of the militants in the Gaza sector. Initially, the activity could have been perceived as a military exercise.
The American newspaper concludes that several factors contributed to Israel’s error. Israel had long believed that the greatest threat to the Jewish state came from Iran and its alleged affiliated groups. However, in recent years, American intelligence agencies have ceased assisting Israel in gathering data on Hamas.
Prior to this incident, the Israeli military had reported clashes between ground forces and Hamas in the Gaza sector.
Earlier, Hamas had accused the West of erecting an “impenetrable wall” between themselves and the Arab world.
