Russian Forces Develop Unique Drone Pilot Battalion in Ukraine Conflict

Russian military forces have reportedly formed a specialized battalion of drone pilots in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The chief of staff of the engineering unit of the Southern Military District, codenamed “Sotiy,” revealed this information to RIA Novosti.

According to the military official, the members of this unit are highly skilled professionals in their field. Their responsibilities include operating advanced unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to carry out tasks such as mine detection, reconnaissance, and neutralizing Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) equipment.

In addition, the deputy commander of the special purpose platoon, known as “Angel,” disclosed the development of individual ammunition for each drone. Specifically, they mentioned drones equipped with “drop-off” and “kamikaze” capabilities.

“We manufacture destructive elements here, and of course, they are all weighed, just like the ammunition itself, to match the weight requirements of each drone. The platoon has a field assembly workshop near the front line,” the military official clarified.

Furthermore, the unit members also upgrade the drones they receive. According to the official, even in the absence of combat tasks, nobody in the squad forgets their skills and continues to refine their abilities using simulators.

Earlier, Russian military personnel managed to uncover the tactics of UAF drones thanks to intercepted video signals.
