Couple Sues Ritz-Carlton Hotel After Allegedly Drinking Contaminated Water

A Washington State couple has filed a lawsuit against the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Half Moon Bay, California after the woman claims to have discovered semen in a bottle of water she drank while staying at the luxurious resort. The couple, identified only as Jane and John Doe, had planned a weekend getaway to celebrate Jane’s birthday and spend time with their daughter who was attending a nearby university.

According to reports, the couple arrived at the hotel on November 18, 2022, and everything seemed to be going well until that night. After realizing they were out of bottled water, they called the front desk for more. A male employee delivered five bottles to their room, and the couple had no reason to suspect anything was wrong with them. However, in the middle of the night, Jane woke up and took a sip from one of the bottles, immediately noticing an unusual taste and texture.

Jane contacted hotel security and management, expressing her concerns about the water. It was later confirmed by a claim adjuster that the water had been contaminated with semen. The couple claims to have requested the bottle from the resort, but officials have allegedly refused to hand it over.

The lawsuit, which does not identify the couple to protect their privacy, seeks damages from the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, LLC, Marriott International, Inc., and unnamed defendants. The couple alleges that the hotel acted wrongfully and negligently, and they are calling for an independent investigation into the incident. They also want the hotel’s hiring practices to be examined, as they believe a “criminal deviant” was able to sexually assault Jane.

The couple, who has been married for 25 years, claims that the incident has caused intimacy issues in their relationship. They have accused the hotel of offering them points as compensation when they first reported their concerns.

The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office’s investigation has reportedly been hindered due to the hotel’s lack of cooperation in turning over the contaminated bottle. The couple is also seeking a cross-check of DNA samples against sex offender registries to potentially identify the suspect.

The Ritz-Carlton officials have not yet commented on the lawsuit. However, a hotel spokesperson stated that they do not typically comment on pending litigation.

This incident has raised questions about the hotel’s responsibility and security measures and has resulted in a legal battle between the couple and the hotel. The lawsuit seeks to hold the hotel accountable for the alleged negligence and misconduct that led to this disturbing incident.
