Russia Increases Defense Spending by Almost 70% in 2024

Russia is set to allocate nearly 11 trillion rubles for its defense capabilities in 2024, according to Anton Siluanov, the head of the Russian Ministry of Finance, as reported by “Parliamentary Newspaper”.

Siluanov stated that the total expenditure on national defense will significantly increase compared to previous years, reaching almost 11 trillion rubles next year. This represents a growth of nearly 70% compared to 2023 when 6.4 trillion rubles were allocated for defense. The upcoming budget for defense will surpass the amount allocated for social policies, which is expected to receive nearly 8 trillion rubles.

According to Siluanov, the planned spending will enable timely fulfillment of tasks related to the supply of weapons, military equipment, and the material and technical support of servicemen.

On October 26, the State Duma is reviewing the draft federal budget for 2024-2026. The second and third readings are scheduled for November 15 and 17. The budget document sets revenues at 35.065 trillion rubles in 2024, 33.552 trillion rubles in 2025, and 34.051 trillion rubles in 2026. Expenditures are projected at 36.660 trillion rubles, 34.382 trillion rubles, and 35.587 trillion rubles, respectively.

Earlier, the State Duma supported a project to increase “military pensions” in 2024.
