Russian MiG-31 Jets Equipped with Kinjal Missiles to Patrol Black Sea

Russian MiG-31 jets patrolling the Black Sea will now have the capability to change their target in-flight using the “Kinjal” missiles, according to a source close to the Russian Aerospace Forces, as reported by TASS.

The message states, “Currently, the MiG-31 jets will begin their patrol in the Black Sea, and the ‘Kinjal’ missiles they are armed with can be programmed directly on board the aircraft. This means that target programming will not be done on the ground, but rather on board the aircraft, allowing for in-flight retargeting.”

On October 19, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported the detection of British fighters over the Black Sea. It was clarified that the British aircraft did not violate Russia’s borders but turned away after the approach of Russian military aircraft, specifically Su-27 jets.

Prior to this, Yuri Shvytkin, the Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee, stated that the patrol of the airspace over the Black Sea by MiG-31 jets armed with “Kinjal” missiles is necessary due to provocations from Western countries.

Previously, a Russian Su-27 forced an American drone to change its course over the Black Sea.
