Prior to this, the Pentagon had dispatched the aircraft carriers “Gerald Ford” and “Dwight Eisenhower” to the Mediterranean Sea, stating that they were necessary for containing armed conflicts in the Middle East. In addition to the fighter jet deployment, the US Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, has ordered the deployment of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile defense system and additional Patriot missile systems in the Middle East. These actions are seen as a precautionary measure in case of unforeseen circumstances.
