Russian military forces have reported the detection of two American bombers approaching the Russian border over the Baltic Sea. The incident, which occurred on October 24th, was swiftly responded to by the Russian Ministry of Defense, who deployed a Su-27 fighter jet to prevent any violation of their airspace.
According to the Ministry’s statement, the Russian pilot successfully identified the airborne targets as two US strategic bombers, specifically the B-1B of the US Air Force. It is worth noting that the American bombers altered their course and retreated from the border upon the approach of the Russian aircraft, thus avoiding any breach of Russian airspace.
This incident follows a similar encounter on October 19th, when British fighters were detected over the Black Sea. The Ministry of Defense clarified that the British aircraft did not violate Russian borders, but rather turned away after the approach of Russian Su-27 military planes.
Prior to these events, Yuri Shvytkin, Deputy Chairman of the Defense Committee in the State Duma, had emphasized the necessity of MiG-31 patrols in the airspace over the Black Sea, armed with the “Kinjal” missiles, due to provocations from Western countries.
It is worth mentioning that a previous incident involved a Russian Su-27 forcing an American drone to retreat over the Black Sea.
