House Judiciary Committee to Interview Federal Prosecutors in Hunter Biden Probe

The House Judiciary Committee is set to conduct transcribed interviews with federal prosecutors involved in the Hunter Biden probe, as part of their investigation into alleged politicization of the case. The committee has been negotiating with the Justice Department for months to secure the testimony of these officials. U.S. attorney for the Central District of California, Martin Estrada, is scheduled to sit for an interview on Tuesday, while DOJ Tax Division attorney Stuart Goldberg will be interviewed on Wednesday.

The committee’s request for these interviews comes in the wake of allegations of politicization and misconduct within the Justice Department agencies during the years-long investigation into President Biden’s son. This move indicates a continued effort by House Republicans, led by Chairman Jim Jordan, to shed light on the handling of the case.

Special Counsel David Weiss, who is overseeing the government’s investigation into Hunter Biden, is also expected to appear for a transcribed interview on November 7, behind closed doors. The Justice Department initially offered Weiss for public testimony back in July, but a source within the department stated that they would prefer his testimony to be public.

Weiss was appointed as special counsel by Attorney General Merrick Garland in August, with jurisdiction over the Biden investigation and any related issues. He has been leading the investigation since 2018, amid concerns of political influence on prosecutorial decisions.

In his capacity as special counsel, Weiss has already brought charges against Hunter Biden, including making false statements in the purchase of a firearm and possession of a firearm by an unlawful user of a controlled substance. Hunter Biden pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The interview with Weiss comes at a crucial time, as House Republicans are pursuing an impeachment inquiry against President Biden. However, the status of the impeachment inquiry has become uncertain following the ouster of Rep. Kevin McCarthy as House speaker.

The House Judiciary Committee’s decision to interview federal prosecutors involved in the Hunter Biden probe highlights the ongoing scrutiny surrounding the investigation. It serves as a significant development in the broader political landscape, with implications for both Republicans and Democrats.
