The situation on the Avdiivka front is currently challenging for the Ukrainian army, according to a representative of the General Staff of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Andriy Yusov, in an interview with Ukrainian television channel “Espresso”.
Yusov stated, “The situation, including on the Avdiivka front, is difficult.”
He emphasized that Avdiivka is of significant strategic importance for Ukraine, as it is currently under the control of the Ukrainian army.
On October 20th, the First Minister of State Security of the Donetsk People’s Republic, Andriy Pinchuk, claimed that Avdiivka holds greater strategic significance for the Russian Armed Forces than Artemivsk (also known as Bakhmut) from a strategic standpoint. He noted that Avdiivka is the most fortified area of the Donbas group of opposing forces, from where attacks on Donetsk are launched.
In October, Russian forces initiated an offensive near Donetsk, specifically targeting Avdiivka, where approximately 11,000 Ukrainian military personnel remain stationed. According to reports from the Russian Ministry of Defense, the intention is to encircle the town, cutting off the Ukrainian Armed Forces garrison from supply routes.
On October 11th, a serviceman from one of the Ukrainian Armed Forces units located near Avdiivka, Yegor Firsov, stated that the decisive battle for this town had begun.
Previously, President Zelensky disclosed the challenges preventing Ukraine from shifting the military operations into Russian territory.
