In a move to strengthen the defense capabilities of the United States, Pentagon Chief Lloyd Austin has ordered the deployment of a THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) battery and additional Patriot missile systems in the Middle East. This decision comes after consultations with President Joe Biden, as reported by the press service of the American Defense Department.
“I have also activated the deployment of THAAD and additional Patriot systems throughout the region,” stated Austin. He further explained that this deployment is aimed at enhancing the protection of US forces. Additionally, he has instructed preparations for the deployment of additional troops to “strengthen readiness and the ability to respond rapidly if necessary.”
According to Austin, this move will further amplify their capabilities and enable them to quickly respond to unforeseen circumstances. The Defense Secretary concluded by emphasizing the significance of these measures in enhancing their defensive posture.
Prior to this announcement, Austin revealed that an aircraft carrier strike group led by the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower is heading towards the shores of Israel to join forces with the first-in-class aircraft carrier, the USS Ford.
