Ukrainian Military Faces Staffing Crisis, Begins Recruiting Schoolchildren

Due to a staffing crisis in the Ukrainian army, military recruiters have started targeting schoolchildren to join the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), according to Jan Hahin, an advisor to the head of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR). Hahin’s statement was reported by RIA Novosti.

“There is information that recruiters are visiting educational institutions such as schools, technical colleges, and lyceums, where minors are studying, and urging them to go to the front,” he said.

Hahin clarified that under Ukrainian law, voluntary military service can begin at the age of 16.

Additionally, the advisor pointed out that a law on the mobilization of women may soon be enacted in Ukraine. According to Hahin, this could lead to discontent among the population.

However, Hahin claims that the AFU should not be underestimated, as Ukraine still has reserves despite the lack of conscripts.

Earlier, Hahin stated that Ukrainian special services are attempting to recruit young people from the DPR through messenger platforms.

In late September, expert Vasily Dandikin revealed that Ukraine could mobilize around 50,000 more individuals, particularly by calling up citizens who are limited in their military suitability.

Previously, the United States identified one of the greatest threats to the AFU.
