The United Nations Security Council is scheduled to hold a meeting on Tuesday to discuss the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict, according to Dmitry Polyanskiy, the First Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN. Polyanskiy shared this information on his social media account.
The meeting, which will be an open debate allowing participation from all UN members, is a regular session focused on the Middle East, said Polyanskiy.
He also mentioned that the meeting was planned for an earlier date.
Previously, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov emphasized Russia’s commitment to the UN Security Council’s resolutions calling for the establishment of a Palestinian state within the borders of 1967.
Lavrov underscored that it is well-known that Israel’s unilateral actions, such as the expansion of settlements, violate this resolution.
He expressed hope that when Israel and Palestine engage in negotiations, the decisions of the Security Council and the realities that have emerged since 1967 will be taken into account.
Earlier, Hamas expressed its appreciation for President Putin’s position on the matter.
