An incident at an Amazon warehouse in Las Vegas took a dangerous turn when an altercation over a joke led to one man allegedly attempting to kill a coworker with a box cutter. Kenneth Durhal was arrested by the Las Vegas Police on October 13 and is now facing charges of attempted murder and battery with a deadly weapon.
According to court documents, the incident occurred on the evening of October 12 when the victim and Durhal, along with a group of coworkers, were having lunch together. The victim cracked a joke that upset Durhal, and this led to a heated argument between the two.
The victim told the police that Durhal asked him to go to the locker room for a chat. Allegedly, Durhal retrieved a box cutter from his locker and the two men continued their argument in the bathroom connected to the locker room. During the argument, Durhal allegedly pulled out the box cutter and began striking and cutting the victim, causing lacerations to his neck and head.
In self-defense, the victim claimed to have pushed Durhal and punched him before Durhal put him in a headlock and threatened to kill him. Fortunately, bystanders intervened and convinced Durhal to remain inside until the arrival of the police.
During the investigation, video surveillance footage and other evidence were obtained by the detectives. The next day, Durhal was arrested at his residence without incident. When questioned, he denied having a box cutter during the fight and claimed to have only grabbed his wallet and phone charger from his locker. However, police noted inconsistencies in Durhal’s story during the interview.
Durhal is scheduled to appear in Clark County Justice Court on October 31 for a preliminary hearing. He has also been ordered to stay away from the victim.
This incident serves as a reminder of the potential dangers that can arise in workplace environments. It highlights the importance of conflict resolution and maintaining a safe working environment for all employees.
