Palestinian President Opposes Evacuation of Gazans, US Supports Creation of Safe Zones

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has spoken out against the evacuation of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, according to a statement by Matthew Miller, an official spokesperson for the US State Department, during a briefing streamed on YouTube.

“He does not want Palestinians to leave their land,” noted the official.

Miller also mentioned that Abbas is not alone in his protest, as several Middle Eastern leaders have joined him.

“Therefore, the US has focused on working towards creating safe zones within the Palestinian enclave,” stated the representative of the American administration.

On October 7, Hamas forces launched thousands of rockets into Israeli territory and declared the start of the “Flood of Al-Aqsa” operation. Thousands of militants infiltrated Israeli territory, seizing dozens of military vehicles and over a hundred hostages. Against this backdrop, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu announced that the country is in a state of war.

The counter-operation by the Israel Defense Forces was named “Iron Swords,” with the destruction of Hamas being one of its objectives. The Israeli Air Force struck hundreds of Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip, while the Israeli National Security Council decided to halt the supply of water, food, goods, electricity, and fuel to the enclave. On October 13, Israel informed the United Nations that 1.1 million Palestinians must be evacuated to the south of Gaza within 24 hours in preparation for a ground operation in the region.
