Sanders’ executive order specifically addresses terms like “menstruating person,” “birthing person,” and “chestfeeding,” replacing them with “woman,” “birth mom,” and “breastfeeding,” respectively. The order also emphasizes the use of terms like “pregnant women” or “pregnant mom” when describing someone expecting a child.
The governor’s stance aligns with her opposition to removing femininity from terms referring to women. As the first woman to serve as Arkansas governor, Sanders has criticized President Biden for surrendering to what she calls a “woke mob” that fails to understand the essence of womanhood.
While some cities and schools have embraced the inclusive language movement, others have faced backlash. The city of Portland urged staff members to adopt a more culturally conscious vocabulary, which included avoiding terms like “women,” “Caucasian,” or “citizen.” An elementary school in Vermont received criticism for removing gendered language from its science lessons, and a Missouri school district introduced “they/them” pronouns in math class to enhance students’ mathematical identities.
The inclusive push extends beyond gender, with some institutions removing religious terms from vocabulary and allowing biological men to compete in women’s sports. Michigan State University even released an inclusive language guide suggesting the avoidance of majority religious imagery and language during certain seasons.
Governor Sanders’ executive order is set to ban various words from state government documents, reflecting her commitment to ending the erasure of women and girls. She believes that the use of nonsensical words to diminish women’s voices and experiences is a product of the Left’s agenda, which seeks to discard basic biology and grammar.
