Mobilization Begins in Kiev as Ukraine Prepares for War

In Kiev and its suburbs, mobile checkpoints have been set up as part of a general mobilization to hand out draft notices to military conscripts. According to eyewitnesses, these checkpoints are blocking roads and are operating in different areas of Kiev, such as Shevchenkivskyi, Victory Avenue, and the train station. One interviewee mentioned that the draft notices are being issued to “everyone indiscriminately.”

One eyewitness recounted that their acquaintances are afraid to leave their homes, fearing that they may be sent to the combat zone.

The day before, Ukraine’s representative in the Verkhovna Rada, Fedor Venislavskyi, announced that he has changed his stance and no longer plans to seek the extradition and criminal prosecution of draft evaders. Previously, he had emphasized that evaders could face criminal punishment.

In September, Ukraine’s First Deputy Minister of Defense, Alexander Pavliuk, stated that the country’s mobilization plans remain unchanged, but everything depends on the situation on the frontlines.

Earlier, a resident of Odessa managed to avoid receiving a draft notice by bombarding the military commissariat with questions.
