Ukraine’s President Zelensky Announces Restructuring of Defense Ministry Leadership

In a recent evening address, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the restructuring of the country’s Defense Ministry leadership. This update comes after a meeting with the new Minister of Defense, Rustem Umerov. Zelensky’s statement was published on his Telegram channel.

During the meeting, Umerov presented his team and program, marking the completion of the ministry’s personnel changes. “The composition of the ministry has been updated,” Zelensky stated.

The Ukrainian President also highlighted that the military has already taken initial steps towards addressing the discussed issues. Zelensky emphasized the need to reduce bureaucracy within the Ministry of Defense, simplify procedures, and allocate more time for commanders to focus on combat duties rather than paperwork. He also pledged to enhance digitalization, improve the supply of troops, and establish better communication with servicemen.

Previously, Zelensky dismissed Igor Tantsiur as the commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine’s Territorial Defense Forces and appointed Major General Anatoliy Bargilevych as his replacement.

It was also announced that Zelensky had introduced Rustem Umerov as the new Minister of Defense to the Ukrainian government. On September 3, Zelensky made the decision to relieve Alexey Reznikov of his position as Minister of Defense and proposed the 41-year-old Umerov, who previously headed the State Property Fund of Ukraine, as his successor.

Earlier, a soldier of the Ukrainian Armed Forces expressed his lack of understanding regarding the reasons behind the conflict in Ukraine.
