BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Joran van der Sloot, a convicted killer, has confessed to the slaying of Natalee Holloway, according to a federal judge in Alabama who accepted his guilty plea in an extortion case targeting her family. The confession, detailed in a transcript, provides a grisly account of Holloway’s final moments. Van der Sloot admitted to crushing her head with a cinderblock and dragging her to the ocean when she refused his sexual advances on an Aruba beach.

In his confession, van der Sloot expressed anger at Holloway’s resistance and described how he brutally attacked her, saying, “I smash her head in with it completely.” He further stated, “Her face basically, you know, collapses in. Even though it’s dark, I can see her face is collapsed in.”

After the attack, van der Sloot confessed to dragging Holloway into the sea until he was about knees deep and then pushing her off. He then walked home. Van der Sloot apologized to Holloway’s family in court and agreed to assist law enforcement and her relatives in investigating her disappearance and also agreed to a polygraph test.

Natalee Holloway was 18 years old when she went missing during a senior trip to Aruba in May 2005. She was last seen exiting a bar with van der Sloot, who has now confessed to her murder. Judge Anna Manasco, addressing van der Sloot in court, referred to his unrelated murder of another woman and stated, “You have brutally murdered, in separate incidents, years apart, two young women who refused your sexual advances.”

The court labeled the charges of extortion and fraud against van der Sloot as “heinous” due to his deliberate attempt to profit from selling false information. However, as part of the plea deal, federal prosecutors agreed not to use his confession against him for any other purposes.

Beth Holloway, Natalee’s mother, expressed relief outside the courthouse, stating, “After 18 years, Natalee’s case has been solved. Joran van der Sloot is the killer.” In her victim impact statement, she directed strong words towards van der Sloot, saying, “You are a killer, and I want you to remember that every time that jail door slams.”

Van der Sloot, a 36-year-old Dutch national, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison, with credit for time already served in the U.S. He will be transferred back to Peru to serve the remainder of his sentence there for an unrelated murder.

The case of Natalee Holloway, who was legally declared dead in 2012, remains unresolved as her remains have not yet been found. Van der Sloot’s expected release date is June 9, 2043, after which he will be removed from American soil by the U.S. Marshals.

This high-profile case has captivated the public’s attention for years, and the recent confession brings some closure to the Holloway family. However, the search for justice and answers continues as they hope to find Natalee’s remains and fully uncover the truth behind her tragic disappearance.
