An Indiana homeowner exercised his right to self-defense when he shot and killed an intruder who attacked him in his living room, according to local police. The incident took place on East Jackson Street in Kokomo, Indiana, on Sunday evening. The homeowner, who has chosen to remain anonymous, reported a break-in and explained to the police that he woke up to find an unknown male lurking in his living room.
In an attempt to get the intruder to leave his home, the homeowner confronted him. However, the situation quickly turned violent as the intruder physically attacked the homeowner. Fearing for his safety, the homeowner made the decision to defend himself and retrieved his firearm. He shot the suspect in an effort to stop the altercation, resulting in the intruder’s death. The suspect was later identified as 51-year-old Scott Elliot Jones of Kokomo.
The homeowner sustained minor injuries, including abrasions and bruising, during the physical altercation. He was treated on the scene. The Kokomo Police Department is currently investigating the incident, with assistance from the Howard County Coroner’s Office. Once the investigation is concluded, the findings will be reviewed by the Howard County Prosecutor’s Office.
The police spokesperson, when asked about the possibility of self-defense in this case, declined to provide further comments, stating that the investigation is ongoing.
